Diwakar Singh ousts top seed Rahul


Mumbai, August 8th: Diwakar Singh of Uttar Pradesh who is seeded 5th in the tournament produced a staggering performance to pull himself from 2 games down and defeat top seed Rahul Baitha of Maharashtra 7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-,9, 11-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Otters Club Open Squash Tournament 2019 co-sponsored by Mahindra Rise and played at the Otters Club Squash Courts on Thursday, 
Rahul, who has been performing consistently came into the match as the favourite. Rahul started strong and did well to keep Diwakar at bay taking the first 2 games 11-7, 11-9 to inch closer to another straight games victory. Diwakar Singh, who was playing well buy losing points in crunch moments finally found some momentum when he fought hard and made fewer errors to take the 3rd game 11-9 and keep his hopes alive. Just when it looked like Rahul would bounce back, Diwakar played brilliantly to score back to back points and sneak an 11-9 victory to level the scores. Rahul, who was pushed to his limits in the last 2 games could not find the strength to match Diwakar's intensity and surrendered the final game helping Diwakar secure a  7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4 upset victory over the top seed and storm into the semis. 
In another quarter-final tie,  lower-ranked Advait Adik of Maharashtra faced no challenge from his fellow statemate and 3rd Seed Suraj Chand as he completely dominated him on his 11-7, 11-4, 11-1 rout to advance to the semis. Meanwhile, 2nd seed Tushar Shahani of Maharashtra managed to live up to his top billing and tamed Avinash Yadav of Maharashtra securing an easy 11-2, 11-7, 11-5 victory to seal a place in the semi-finals. With this quarter-final win, Tushar is still on track to secure a dual-title.
