India, 17 March 2020: The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Government of India (GOI) has bestowed GoAir with ‘Swachh Bharat Award' for a host of cleanliness initiatives undertaken by the airline. MoCA’s recently concluded survey took into account a number of parameters such as display (in-flight) of Swachhata Anthem, sensitizing staff & passengers regarding Swachhata, and innovative steps taken by the airline to promote Swachhata among others. None other than the Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri presented GoAir with a trophy and a certificate at the international exhibition and conference, ‘Wings India 2020’ in Hyderabad.
Prior to the award, starting 7th March 2020, GoAir has initiated several measures to ensure the safety and health of its customers and employees in the wake of COVID-19. GoAir has equipped each of its aircraft with a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter, which filters out recirculated air on-board to remove airborne particles. HEPA filters are also used in hospitals to provide patients with clean air wherein they extract more than 99.999% of even the tiniest viruses, including COVID-19.
Aircraft Cleaning:
GoAir spends between 6-7 hours cleaning each aircraft every day.
As of 7th March 2020, the airline has enhanced its overnight cleaning procedures. Typically, the airline uses Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved, hospital-grade disinfectant in the lavatories and an interior cleaner in the cabin.
Now, the airline is expanding the use of the hospital-grade disinfectant throughout the aircraft, and it will be used for deep cleaning the aircraft, i.e. in the cabin, on elements in the flight deck, and in the lavatory. This goes beyond any of the standard guidelines.
 At the Airport:
       Disinfecting the check-in kiosks:
Touch-screens are used by multiple customers – GoAir has addressed this issue by disinfecting them multiple times on a daily basis.
Disinfecting gate areas and all the check-in counters:
Disinfecting the gate areas across airports that are part of GoAir’s network has been initiated. Besides, disinfecting the ticketing and check-in counters is also being done
Speaking about the award and cleanliness initiatives, Mr. Jeh Wadia, Managing Director- GoAir said, “Close on the heels of receiving four-out-of-four star rating from 1.4 million customers for cleanliness, best seat comfort & cabin services in a survey by US-based APEX, here is the highest authority in India, i.e. the Ministry of Civil Aviation who has recognized GoAir’s efforts to maintain a super clean and super safe fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.
