Huawei Won "Most Innovative 5G Enterprise Partnership/Trial" for Joint Wuhan 5G Smart Anti-Epidemic Project

[Online Meeting, September 9, 2020] At the 5G World 2020 Summit, Huawei was recognized for their work in the joint Wuhan 5G Smart Anti-Epidemic Project with the "Most Innovative 5G Enterprise Partnership/Trial" award. This award reflects how beneficial Huawei's innovative applications of 5G technologies have been to smart healthcare, receiving high praise in the industry.

The Wuhan 5G Smart Anti-Epidemic Project was jointly established by Huawei and multiple major hospitals, medical institutions, and government departments immediately after the outbreak of the coronavirus at the beginning of 2020.

The project leveraged 5G's high bandwidth, low latency, site simplicity, and deployment flexibility to accelerate the adoption of smart healthcare solutions. It provided strong digital support for medical workers to effectively lesson the effects and spread of the virus, epitomizing the innovative application of 5G technologies in smart healthcare services.

With 5G's reliable service assurance, medical devices required for smart healthcare are ensured to have the highest access and scheduling priorities, highest bandwidth, and lowest latency. On-premises MEC deployment is enabled to implement fast transfer and processing of medical data. Based on powerful 5G networks, the Wuhan 5G Smart Anti-Epidemic Project delivered information services to local government departments, medical institutions, and various enterprises. As a result, the services still run smoothly during the pandemic.

For example, basic medical information networks were quickly set up in the temporary Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals, along with the big data platform for the pandemic control and prevention. With these networks and platform in place, a wide variety of medical services were enabled, including 5G live broadcasting, 5G remote collaboration for consultation, self-check of protective gear wearing, and consultation and ward-round trolleys. Numerous 5G remote diagnosis services based on 5G were executed, such as CT scanning, ultra-B examination, and X-ray film screening. 5G remote protection was also conducted, including gene sequencing, infrared temperature measurement, and robot-based disinfection. Moreover, ample conferencing support was also provided to facilitate the coordination of prevention and control.

This project benefited 1,850 doctors, 3,400 nursing workers, and 8,350 patients, significantly increasing the cure rate and efficiency of healthcare while also reducing the risk of infection for medical workers. Meanwhile, 5G networks were important vehicles to implement remote education, collaboration, and teleconferencing. This helped production in China to resume after the spread of the virus was reduced, which in return supported the prevention and control of the virus.

5G has also enabled broad applications of cloud video, infrared temperature measurement, and robot-based disinfection and services in airports, terminal stations, office buildings, and residential communities. These applications were significant in reducing the spread of the virus by helping coordinate prevention and control, identify potential patients in public areas, and disinfect large indoor and outdoor environments, and will be integrated into the medical infrastructure after the pandemic.

Hao Guangming, Vice President of Huawei Global Marketing and Solution Sales Department, said: "The advanced 5G smart healthcare service applications implemented by the Wuhan 5G Smart Anti-Epidemic Project are now being quickly replicated in other regions around the world. For example, 5G drug delivery and logistics robot services have been implemented in Thailand. 5G video conference systems have been set up for the international medical team in Cambodia. 5G robotic epidemic prevention services have been implemented in Hong Kong as well as in major Singapore cities. The application of 5G smart healthcare drives the digital transformation of the global smart healthcare market worth of hundreds of billions of dollars and the improvement of social digital healthcare systems, providing better services to both medical workers and patients alike."

The 5G World 2020 Summit is organized by Informa Tech and presents 14 special awards to give recognition to leading telecom businesses who have made outstanding achievements in the 5G field. It is held to jointly promote the applications and growth of the 5G industry. Innovative achievements in 5G wireless access networks, core networks, automation, businesses, cyber security, development, and testing are also showcased at the summit.
