The Marathi Film Industry Has Lost A Great All-Round Actress Says Amit Deshmukh


Mumbai, 22nd September, 2020: With the demise of veteran Marathi film actress AshaltaWabgaonkar, a versatile and talented actor has been lost, in the words of Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh.

Marathi film veteran AshaltaWabgaonkar passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday, 22nd September. The actress passed away from COVID19 in Satara. Minister of Cultural Affairs, Shree Amit VilasraoDeshmukh said a versatile and talented actor has been lost.

In his condolence message, Shree Amit Deshmukh noted that the Late Smt. AshaltaWabgaonkar made her acting debut in Konkani and Marathi dramas. She made her first Hindi debut in the film ‘ApneParaye’. Among her achievements, she was nominated for a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role as a Supporting Actress in the film ‘ApneParaye’. In the Marathi film industry, ‘Umbartha’, ‘Sutradhar’, ‘Navri Mile Navryala’ and ‘Vahinichi Maya’ were some of her best films.

She also studied music under the tutorship of PanditJitendraAbhisheki, and her book 'GardSabhowati', a book on music, was also popular among readers.

AshaltaWabgaonkar made an indelible mark on the film industry due to her simple and natural acting. She was able to play a variety of roles. Her demise marks the loss of a versatile artist.
