Thane paddler Deepit wins Junior boys’ singles crown

Mumbai, January 26:

Thane’s Deepit Patil did well to produce some strong fighting performances to  Aadil Anand of TSTTA pulling off a 11-13, 11-4, 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-3 win to clinch the Junior Boy’s singles crown in the Dr. Ramesh Prabhoo Memorial 82^nd Maharashtra State Table Tennis Championship organized by The Suburban District Table Tennis Association and played at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, Vile Parle, Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

Deepit started  badly and surrendered the first game to the local challenger Aadil showed signs of putting up a stiff challenge. However, Aadil was unable to maintain the momentum while Deepit gradually found his rhythm and started to call the shots and quickly won the next three games to grab a 3-1 advantage. Aadil managed to win a close fifth game before Deepit easily won the sixth to complete the win.

Earlier, Deepit prevailed over another local boy defeating Jash Modi also of TSTTA by a 11-4, 11-6, 11-3, 6-11, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9 victory in a long-drawn semi-final clash. In the other semi-final Aadil got the better of his teammate Hrishikesh Malhotra coasting to a 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8 win.

Jash did not go home disappointed as he bagged the Third-place defeating compatriot Hrishikesh 12-10. 11-9, 11-8.

Results - Sub-junior boys - quarter-finals: Deepit Patil (THN) beat Neil Mule (PNA) 11-7, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4;

Jash Modi (TSTTA) beat Amish Athavle (NDD) 11-7, 11-9, 13-11, 11-6;

Aadil Anand (TSTTA) beat Kushal Chopda (NSK) 11-9, 11-13, 12-10, 11-8, 11-4;

Hrishikesh Malhotra (TSTTA) beat Swayam Ibraampurkar (TSTTA) 13-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.

Semi-finals: Deepit Patil (THN) beat Jash Modi (TSTTA) 11-4, 11-6, 11-3, 6-11, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9;

Aadil Anand (TSTTA) beat Hrishikesh Malhotra (TSTTA) 5-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8.

Final: Deepit Patil (THN) beat Aadil Anand (TSTTA) 11-13, 11-4, 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-3.

Third fourth place: Jash Modi (TSTTA) beat Hrishikesh Malhotra (TSTTA) 12-10. 11-9, 11-8.
