“The meat and seafood sector had a major impact over the last one year due to COVID 19 and bird flu. However, the pandemic was a positive wake-up call for buyers and sellers of meat and seafood, as it emphasised the need for strict adherence to hygienic measure and FSSAI norms for safe consumption. We would like for the Union Budget for 2021-2022 to give a much-needed boost to the industry through roll-out of policies and schemes that helps in facilitating an organized change in the meat and seafood sector across all towns and cities in India. The government should announce measures that would aid farmers and fishermen to transport fresh production. Developing infrastructure for agriculture and production in the village level should also be a priority for inclusive development and allocation of funds for skill development of the youth in the rural sector will help in securing jobs in the fisheries segment. Additionally, the Government can also provide subsidies that would help in extending the network of supply chain management and cold chain logistics which can improve the safety and quality of meat consumption across India”
