Electronics sector is the fastest growing segment in the world; India accounts for 3% of global production

Amidst the pandemic, CII Uttar Pradesh today conducted a Conference on Electronics Manufacturing keeping in mind its importance during current times where subject matter experts from across the country deliberated on the policy matters, challenges & opportunities pertaining to the sector.

Mr Sundeep Gupta, Chairman, CII Western UP Zonal Council pointed out that the pandemic has highlighted the need of a local and diversified supply chain since the global supply chains have been severely impacted. Sharing that though India has traditionally been an importer of Electronics, with the new Electronics policy & the PLI schemes introduced and the advantages of a large consumer base, inclination towards digitization, Smart cities & Digital India initiatives of the government, the country is poised to emerge as a significant player in the global electronics market.

Mr Sunil Vachani, Chairman, Dixon Technologies India Ltd mentioned that the world is looking for an alternative to China for electronic manufacturing & we have a huge opportunity. He also shared that the current ICT exports are at 13 bn USD which is targeted to touch 100 bm USD in the next 5 years. Mr Vachani mentioned that the PLI scheme is a unique proposition however the sector faces other challenges such as high logistic cost, high finance cost, lack of component ecosystem, land availability, skill development, timely disbursal of incentives as well as need for cluster development. State-specific incentives would further foster entrepreneurship.

Mr Vinod Sharma, Chairman, National Committee on ICTE & Managing Director, Deki Electronics Ltd pointed out that electronics is the fastest growing sector globally & the cars, drones, cctvs are all gifts of electronic technology. He also highlighted that India stands at one-third of the world's per-capita electronic consumption and it accounts for 3% of the global electronic production.

The Conference also saw deliberation on use of vacuum technology in electronics manufacturing, energy efficiency, management of e-waste, automation & smart manufacturing as well as integration of supply chain and logistics in the value chain.
