I am playing a very Dabangg type of a cop in Pinjara Khubsurti Ka: Karan Vohra

COLORS’ popular show Pinjara Khubsurti Ka, a story of one's obsession with beauty, captivated the viewers with its ever-evolving storyline and brilliant characters. As Mayura (played by Riya Sharma) and Omkar (played by Sahil Uppal) finally manage to resolve the differences between them after a complicated journey, their relationship will come across another hurdle. This time it is ACP Raghav Shastri, played by the talented actor Karan Vohra, who is creating a whole lot of drama between the couple. Raghav has known Mayura for a long time and he is in love with her. And his entry has opened a new chapter in Mayura’s life and there are a lot of twists and action in store for viewers. Karan Vohra talks about his Dabangg characters in a freewheeling conversation, why he chose to play ACP Raghav Shastri and bonding with the cast.

Tell us about your character

I am playing an ACP called Raghav Shastri, he is a lot like Anil Kapoor's character in the movie Malang. He is quite quirky and fun, but he also has a knack for becoming serious very quickly. There are a lot of variations to his character. He can flip at any moment and that is one of his tendencies. He is not a completely negative personality, but there are some interesting shades to him. He has a past with Mayura, but we will get to know that when they come face to face.

What are the preparations you had to do for this role?

There was no major preparation on my part. I went through the screenplay that they gave me and it was just perfect. The way my character has been described, I couldn't refuse it! Raghav Shastri is a classic cop who is very funny and witty. Also, my entry was quite filmy and interesting.

How does it feel being a part of Pinjara Khubsurati Ka?

I am thrilled to be a part of the show. To give you a background, I have done two previous shows with this production house. I was offered this show before, but I couldn't do it because of some prior commitments. But when I was presented with this interesting character I was ready for it. Also, it felt like I am coming back to my family again. And the character is not your typical daily soap character. He is a fun-loving guy and has got his own swag. It is a joy for me to play such a role.

Tell us about bonding with your co-stars

I know Sahil very well. He is also from Delhi and a very close friend of my younger brother. Riya is also a really good friend. I also know Harish as he was there in my first show. For me, production matters a lot. The person who is behind the camera and setting up things for you. I have done two previous shows with them so they are like a family.

Are you playing a negative role?

It’s not an out-and-out negative role. Omkar wants to keep Raghav away when he learns that at some point in life they were close. While Raghav sees all the wrong that Omkar has done to Mayura and he wants them to leave each other. He wishes to be with Mayura so he keeps doing something or the other so that they don’t be together. If he is successful or not, the viewers will have to see to find out!

Do you have any action scenes in the show?

As of now, there are no action scenes in the script. One reason is that we are shooting outside Mumbai and the resources are limited. But later, if the makers choose to include action sequences in the show, I would be quite willing to do them.
