Over 200 million small businesses around the world need financing to take a position, grow, and make new jobs. But we all know that SMEs need good financing to thrive. They need access to information, markets, and technology to become more productive, efficient, and resilient. They also need access to resources that will help strengthen their well-being. With COVID-19 and the effect on Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs) has been particularly severe, due to higher level of vulnerability and lower financial resilience. We think that 2021 would be the defining year for SMEs.

The impact of COVID-19 has heightened market risk. Businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are experiencing a sharp downturn due to supply and demand disruptions caused by the pandemic and containment measures, and have found difficult to meet short-term cash needs for operational expenses and debt repayment. Faced with these shortfalls, companies are left with little choice but to safeguard themselves by reducing costs and employment.   

In the light of global contagion, WADHWANI FOUNDATION wants to examine helping SMEs address the FINANCIAL NEEDS IN IN ADDITION TO ITS CONTINUED EFFORT IN EMPOWERING SMEs WITH CAPABILITIES TO GROW BY PROVIDING PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE KNOWLEDGE, WITH AUTOMATED TOOLS ASSISTED BY HUMAN ADVIOSRS AND MENTORS. THIS IS A POTENTIAL INTIATIVE BETWEEN WADHWANI ADVANTAGE https://www.wfglobal.org/advantage/ AND CATALYST https://catalyst.wfglobal.org/

We launched in 2019 our Advantage program . As part of the Advantage program, We are keen to help the SMEs to accelerate their top line, profitably and empower them in building the capabilities. We did pilots in India and now have served 700 SMEs with a high net promoter score, which is an indication of high satisfaction levels.

The Foundation has committed funds towards this cause, including a team of ~100 professionals to build Do It Yourself (DIY) tools, knowledge and process material, AI-enabled technology platform, GENIE, and provide pro-bono consultants.
