Bengaluru: Mumbai Che Raje ended their season 1 campaign on a high, defeating Haryana Heroes 69-53 in the opening match of the Bengaluru leg played at Kanteerva Stadium. Mumbai failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing 3rd in Group B with 10 points from 9 matches.
Mumbai Che Raje started strong, picking out the opposition defence and inflicting an all-out early in the first half to race to an 11-7 lead. Haryana Heroes did well to bounce back from their shaky start and take out Mumbai Che Raje players in back to back raids to level the scores at 13-13 and eventually take a one-point lead at 17-16 at the end of the first quarter. Mumbai Che Raje suddenly found themselves in a spot of bother as Haryana Heroes enforced another all-out to extend their lead to 6 points at 24-18. Mumbai Che Raje slowly recovered from the early onslaught and fought their way back to reduce Haryana's lead to 2 points at 25-23. Haryana managed to secure their 3rd all out to stay ahead of Mumbai Che Raje with a 31-24 lead at the end of the second quarter.
Mumbai Che Raje came back with renewed focus after the half time and raiders A Arul and Mahesh Magdum made short work of Haryana's defence levelling the scores at 34-34 with 4 minutes to go. Mumbai Che Raje continued with their rampage securing an all-out and taking an 8 point lead at 43-35. With 2 minutes left on the clock, Haryana tried their best but could only secure 2 points, trailing the 3rd quarter by 9 points at 47-38.
The final quarter was one of the highest-scoring quarters of the match. Mumbai Che Raje took the game away from Haryana with a decisive 65-47 lead. With 4 minutes to go Haryana tried to get back into the game but could manage to score only 6 points helping Mumbai Che Raje win their last league stage match with a commanding 69-53 victory.
