Chennai, November 19, 2019: Continuing its focus on helping people live better lives, Amway India, the country’s largest FMCG direct selling company, celebrated Universal Children’s Day for the 11th consecutive year. The annual celebrations were hosted across India with 12 NGO partners as part of Amway India’s CSR program- Project Sunrise, through which Amway aims to promote the overall well-being of underprivileged children in India by providing them access to education, health and hygiene.
This year the celebrations were geared towards empowering and encouraging the young ones through several interactive activities with the theme ‘Say No to Single Use Plastic’. These included painting competitions, short skits sensitizing people on eliminating single-use plastic, interactive workshops, craft workshop, puppet shows, dance performances among others.
In Chennai, Amway celebrated Children’s Day in association with Udhavum Ullangal Illam (UUI) by organizing a workshop on ‘Say No to Single Use Plastic’ followed by an interesting session with demo on waste segregation. The event also included painting competition on the theme - ‘Say no to Single-Use Plastic’ / ‘Save Animals’. The event received an overwhelming response from Children of UUI who participated in the competition to creatively advocate their views on the theme. Post the competition, prizes were presented to the winners of the competition.
Talking about the initiative, Mr. GS Cheema, Senior Vice President, North & South, Amway India, said, “Children of today are the leaders of tomorrow and Amway India celebrates Children’s Day each year along with our NGO partners. This year, our theme of ‘Say No to Single-use Plastic” aimed at educating and promoting responsibility among children towards the planet, the country and its citizens. It was a delight to witness the passion and enthusiasm among the children and the creativity they deployed in bringing the theme of the competition to life. We are proud to collaborate with Udhavum Ullangal Illam and will continue to extend our support for the welfare of the children.”
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. K. Suresh, Secretary, Udhavum Ullangal, said, “Our aim is to give the children time-off from the regular routine and engage them in fun activities which ultimately builds their self-confidence and increases their exposure. Over the years, Children’s Day has become a special occasion for our kids and they enthusiastically look forward to celebrating it with Amway. It was heartening to see the sheer display of talent by all the children who expressed their thoughts and ideas to highlight the burning issue of ‘Single-Use Plastic’. We wholeheartedly thank Amway for organizing a fun-filled day for the children.”
