Chennai, 17th January 2020: Frontier Lifeline Hospital, Chennai hosted the 1st International Live Surgical Workshop on Slide Tracheoplasty for Long Segmental Tracheal Stenosis in Children, at their premises on the 17th& 18th of January (Friday & Saturday, respectively). The workshop focused on showcasing 2 live surgical demonstrations of Slide Tracheoplasty + LPA sling repair and CME on Tracheal Repair in Children.
The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. K. K. Ramalingam, Founder & Chairman – KKR Group of ENT Hospitals & Clinic. The workshop was graced and received active participation by reputed doctors all over the country and London, such as Dr Nagarajan Muthialu, Dr Arun Beeman & Dr Madhavan Ramaswamy from Great Ormond Street Hospital (London), Dr Muralidharan, GKNM Hospital (Coimbatore), Dr S. Thirunavukkarasu, Kanchi Kamakoti Child Trust Hospital (Chennai), Dr Suresh Rao, Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital (Mumbai), and Dr Raja Joshi, Sri Ganga Ram Hospital (New Delhi).
Commenting on the occasion, Dr. K. M. Cherian – CEO & Founder, Dr. K. M. Cherian Heart Foundation & Frontier Lifeline Hospital said, “It gives me immense pleasure to have accommodated the 1st International Live Surgical Workshop on Slide Tracheoplasty. This workshop not only brings together multiple professionals, but also happens to be the first of its kind in India. With this being said, this surgery isn’t being conducted and the severity of this isn’t being understood as children face their demise. We at Frontier, have always aimed to be the best by providing the best and this workshop is truly a reflection of what we have encouraged over the course of several years, as well.”
In addition to this, the workshop is centered on the rare condition as it could be both congenital (from birth) or due to complications of long time ventilation. The surgical treatment is only the alternative as there is no medical treatment. The surgical treatment is also a complex problem where the help of Heart Lung Machine is necessary since there will not be any breathing during the procedure.
The procedure itself is very tedious and time consuming. Hence, there is no centers in this country at present practicing the treatment for this condition.  Since it is not been practiced there is no opportunity for doctors, especially thoracic surgeons and ENT specialists to see or acquire the practical tips for successful correction of these conditions.
Through attending this workshop, participants also availed 9.5 CPD allotted by the Royal College of Surgeons, England, as well.
