Mumbai 22: The state produces a large number of films, television series, commercials and documentaries in Marathi, Hindi and other regional languages. In view of this, and to coordinate this process by removing obstacles in filming the policy on entertainment sector will be decided by the Cultural Affairs Department, said Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh today.
A meeting of the Board of Directors of Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Film City) was held at the Mantralay today.Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Rajendra Patil-Yadravkar, Managing Director of Chitranagari Manisha Verma, Secretary of Cultural Affairs Department Saurabh Vijay, Joint Managing Director of Chitranagari Aanchal Goyal and other officials were present on the occasion.
Mr. Deshmukh said that today the entertainment sector has expanded to a large extent but it is necessary to have a policy in this regard. The policy will include films, serials, OTTs, theater, folk art, documentaries and advertisements. The policy should be drafted by Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari. After the draft of policy submitted to the Department of Cultural Affairs the policy will be presented to the Cabinet. As the entertainment sector provides employment to many, the sector needs to be given the status of an industrial sector as well as concessions to small and medium enterprises. Necessary action will also be taken by the Department of Cultural Affairs to declare this area as an industrial area.
Mr. Deshmukh further said that, while expanding the Single Window System Scheme, a study should be done on whether the permits issued by the Central and State Governments can be given in one place, and also to include the well-known tourist destinations in Maharashtra which are not even known to the tourists. At present, Single Window System Scheme is being implemented in Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs. In the second phase, the scheme will be implemented in Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Satara, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, while in the third phase, it will be implemented in the remaining districts.
Up to 25 per cent concession in rent should be given - Minister of State
Lockdown took place on March 24 in the state on the backdrop of Covid-19. Permission was granted for filming after June 25 after Mission Begin Again. During this time many film and series producers had reserved studios in Filmcity for filming. However, due to the lockdown, filming was not possible and many film associations had demanded a reduction in the rent charged. Based on this demand, producers filming in Chitranagar will be given a discount of up to 25 per cent or new dates for filming.
Appointment of technical experts and skilled manpower for Chitranagari and formation of panels, reduction of filming rates for filmmakers,appointment of Chief Security Executive Officer at Chitranagari, opening of restaurants in Chitranagari, introduction of internships for various courses, improvement of Chitranagari rental concession system and Various issues such as efforts to increase revenue were discussed at the board meeting.
