Ganesh Visarjan done - Amruta Fadnavis of Divyaj Foundation & Bhamla Foundation organise a clean-up drive at Mumbai’s Juhu beach!
The 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities have eventually come to an end. However, the sight on beaches of Mumbai post the idol immersion is one of apathy as they are strewn with idol remains and plastic.
In an endeavour to drive awareness about the alarming issue of city’s beaches post Ganpati visarjan while supporting the city civic authority’s efforts, Smt. Amruta Fadnavis (of Divyaj Foundation) partnered with Shri. Asif Bhamla founder of Bhamla Foundation for a clean-up drive at Mumbai’s Juhu beach on 10th September.
The noble initiative was flagged off by Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha ji and was attended by BMC commissioner Shri. Iqbal Singh Chahal, Police Commissioner of Mumbai Shri. Vivek Phansalkar, Smt. Poonam Mahajan, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly speaker Shri Rahul Narwekar, Juhu MLA Shri Ameet Satam & other MLA’s and distinguished guests.
Apart from renowned names from the field of politics, a few notable names from Bollywood also participated in the cleanliness drive including veteran actor Anupam Kher and Parineeti Chopra and Aparshakti Khurrana. Interestingly, more than 1000 volunteers came forward to provide a helping hand for the noble cause.
Present at the venue, Amruta Fadnavis said, “
Keeping ourselves and the environment neat and clean is one of the basic hygiene practices that we have been taught as children. Bringing back the cleanliness lessons and implementing them on ourselves and around us is the only solution to fully enjoy the resources of Mother Nature and pass on a serene legacy of environment to our children and to save the marine life."
"Following the thoughts of our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, we all should take oath that we will not spoil our mother nature and not let anyone do the same" she adds.
