SKF India initiates ECO Impact Park with United Way Bengaluru for reviving the Mantapa Lake

Bengaluru, 9^th April 2019: SKF India, a leading technology and solutions provider of bearings, seals, lubrication systems and services initiated Mantapa Lake restoration with United Way Bengaluru under its Environmental Sustainability community care project named “SKF Eco Impact Park”. Under this program, SKF and United Way Bengaluru will work together for reviving and maintaining Mantapa Lake off Jigani Road, South Bengaluru, and improve the ground water levels. In alignment with SKF’s community care vision of creating positive changes in the life of the communities in the neighboring operations, the initiative “SKF Eco Impact” also aims in bringing about community ownership through active volunteerism.

Wake the Lake is a flagship campaign of United Way Bengaluru to revive the dying lakes of the city. SKF India has signed an MoU with United Way to clean Mantapa lake which was deteriorating due to years of waste dump. The intervention spanning five years will undertake several activities at Mantapa Kere which is spread over 41 acres. This will include desilting the lake, increasing its water holding capacity, installation of silt traps, soil enhancing measures and increasing biodiversity around the lake. It will also include tree plantation through volunteer engagement by SKF. 

Commenting on the occasion, Manish Bhatnagar, MD, SKF India said, “We are rapidly depleting our water bodies which has created a negative impact on the environment. Freshwater bodies in most Indian cities, which were once our source of drinking water, have sadly been relentlessly abused over the years.  At SKF, we truly work towards making a positive contribution to the ecosystem we operate in. Taking this a step forward, we have entered into a collaborative partnership with United Way Bengaluru to revive and restore the Mantapa Lake. We are confident that through this association, we can play a part in preserving the lake and drive positive impact to the people living around that area.”
