More than 150 entries for the Junior Regatta


Mumbai 28th April: As part of their vision towards getting an Olympic Medal for the country in Sailing, Corps of Engineers Sailing Club and National Optimist Association of India under the aegis of Yachting Association of India are all set to organize the inaugural Junior Coastal Multiclass Regatta 2019 from 28 Apr to 02 May 19 at Marve Beach, Mumbai. The event gains special significance as it is a Multi Class Sailing Ranking Event for selection of sailors to represent the country in International Competitions. 
The Championship saw a huge response with more than 150 kids from all over India participating. The regatta will be conducted as a series of 12 races over a period of five days. Seven different classes of boat will compete for the coveted top three position in each class of the event. The competition is in synchronization with “KHELO INDIA” initiative and will also spread the message of clean and Green Ocean as the sport encompasses use of only natural forces to complete the course.
 Practice rounds were conducted today to familiarize the participants with the local sea conditions at Marve. Seven classes in total were fielded including Laser Class (Radial AND 4.7, 420, RS ONE 49er, and with major chunk of Optimist Class Sailors. The youngsters braved heavy winds ranging from 10 to 12 knots and got acclimatized with the conditions ahead of the championship which starts on Monday.
