After YouTube, Bhuvan Bam and Ashish Chanchlani try to rule short video app VMate

It is not always that competitors like Bhuvan Bam and Ashish Chanchlani, who are India’s top YouTube stars, come on the same stage. But trending video platform VMate has done the impossible by bringing these YouTubers together for the first time for a short movie, produced by VMate as part of #VMateAsliHolibaaz campaign.
When the two YouTubers were approached for the movie, their only apprehension was that they did not want it to be a run-of-the-mill. But they soon realised that in offing was a unique opportunity. Their only condition was that they wanted to be in their “own character and zone”. In their own words, they wanted to remain themselves.
Bhuvan Bam, who tops all lists of YouTubers in India, feels that VMate is a new platform that would be loved by all. When asked about the collaboration with VMate, he mentioned that his mother is also fond of the trending short video platform.
Ashish Chanchlani, known for his slapstick comedy, added, “When VMate came to us, we both mutually agreed. We had just one condition that we will be ourselves. I am happy with the way things have shaped up.”
The YouTubers also dismissed all speculations of rivalry, referring to each other as the “closest friend in the community”.
It isn’t the first time that artists like Bhuvan Bam and Ashish Chanchlani have forayed into the world of short video platforms. While the former has appeared on TikTok, the latter has earlier integrated some of VMate’s previous campaigns, such as New Year and #HappyValentinesDay challenge, which featured actress Sunny Leone.
The emergence of short video platforms has provided an unprecedented opportunity to several artists, who earlier thrived solely on the popularity of YouTube. For instance, popular YouTuber Awez Darbar, who choreographs songs featuring famous celebrities, has now become a prominent TikTok influencer. The innovation has redefined the production as well as consumption of video content. Unlike YouTube, the short video platforms are themed towards artistic expression.
While long videos might be informative, the new module of video content has empowered creators to say more in less time. Remember the advent of Twitter? The microblogging platform transformed the way people shared opinions – voicing your mind in just few words. Similar is the phenomena evolved by short video platforms like VMate. It wouldn’t be inappropriate to mention that these apps have ushered in a technological as well as artistic revolution.
