Micro small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector is the second largest employer after agriculture in India. However, the sector is facing shortage of labourers in recent months with most migrant labourers returning to their hometown after the COVID outbreak. Availability of skilled labour has always been a challenge for MSMEs and this challenge has worsened in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic.
In order to meet their need for skilled labour, MSMEs can use the digital job portal “MSME Sampark”, which was launched by Government of India on 27 June, 2018, on the occasion of UN SME day. This portal serves as an interface between MSMEs and job seekers who are trained by the 18 Technology Centres of the MSME Ministry across various parts of the country. These Technology Centres offer 76 courses designed to create industry ready workforce and skill enhancement for trainees ranging from school dropouts to M-Tech level. Trainees under these courses can also register their credentials in this portal so that prospective employer can get in touch with them. MSMEs operating in forging, foundry, footwear, glass, electrical, electronics, automotive and other sectors can access trained labourers from this portal.
So far, 5698 companies have registered on this portal and it has helped 10,388 candidates secure suitable job. Job profiles ranging from machine operators, software programmers, technicians to sales executives are posted on this portal and companies can benefit by accessing the nation-wide talent pool under one platform.
