Reduce, Reuse & Recycle: APM Terminals Pipavav observes World Nature Conservation Day

Pipavav, India: As sustainability takes centre stage at APM Terminals Pipavav, the port observed ‘World Nature Conservation Day’ with host of activities. The objective is to create the awareness among youth about the conservation of natural resources for creating a healthy environment for present and future generations. World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated globally on July 28 with the objective of protecting the natural habitat and effectively utilise the resources in an optimum manner.

 

For educating youth, a webinar on “Our Survival Depends on Nature Conservation” was organized by the port with focus on ‘Reduce, Reuse & Recycle’ approach in our daily lives. Over 100 youths participated in this webinar which was addressed by renowned agriculture scientist Dr. H.K. Sharma. Other activities included family and friends of the employees taking pledge for nature conservation, slogan writing competition, essay writing & plantation in schools and community.

 

Along with World Nature Conservation Day, the port also celebrated International Tiger Day which is on July 29. A special video session was arranged for the participants detailing about Project Tiger that was launched to save the animal from the face of extinction.

 

APM Terminals was honoured with Gujarat State CSR Award 2019 by Gujarat CSR Authority, Govt of Gujarat for “Cohesive & Strategic CSR Partnership” in its natural resources management project, “Enhancing Water Resources Management through Micro Irrigation System based Lift Irrigation in Kotadi Cluster of Rajula Taluka.

 

Sustainability is integral to all business operations of APM Terminals globally and initiatives and activities at Pipavav is in sync with this objective. The port has also launched an initiative ‘Gujarat Green Gateway’ that aims at reducing carbon footprints at the port. APM Terminals Pipavav has also planted more than 2.5 lakh plants, constructed nine check dams and have developed more than 60 roof rain water harvesting structures along with regular desilting of ponds & farm ponds in surrounding villages to conserve environment and ensure sustainable operations.
