FAM and IMC Felicitate Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal

Mumbai, 07 / 10 / 2024
The Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM), in collaboration with the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC), organized a grand event to felicitate Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal. The event saw the participation of over 250 key trade leaders from various sectors, who gathered to honor Shri Goyal for his continuous support in advancing the interests of the Indian trade community.
During the event, Shri Piyush Goyal was presented with a ‘Made-in-India’ memento and a beautiful portrait by FAM President Mr. Jitendra Shah and IMC President Mr. Sanjay Mariwala. Among the distinguished dignitaries present on Dias were:
Shri Vinesh Mehta, FAM Chairman Emeritus ,
Mr Pritesh K Shah Director General FAM ,
Mr. Rasesh Doshi, FAM Vice President , Mr. Rahul Patel, IMC Past President , Ms. Sunita Ramthankar, IMC Vice President , Mr. Ajit Mangrulkar, IMC Director General
Key Issues Discussed:
Mumbai Port Trust Land Dispute
One of the significant issues highlighted at the event was the ongoing Mumbai Port Trust Authority land dispute. The land, stretching from Colaba to Wadala, affects the lives of nearly one lakh residents who have been issued eviction notices without alternative accommodation. FAM and IMC called upon Shri Goyal to take this issue up with the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. The residents are willing to relocate for the city’s development, provided they are offered alternative housing nearby.
Trade Bottlenecks in the Stainless Steel Sector
Another major concern raised was the delay in issuing NOCs for cookware production materials, as reported by the Stainless Steel Merchants Association. Containers are being held at ports, leading to financial losses for traders. Additionally, policies like BIS, while crucial for quality control, face implementation challenges due to limited laboratory infrastructure and manpower. The Metal Recycling Association also reported delays in container release due to the non-appointment of PSIC agencies.
Minister’s Assurances
FAM President Mr. Jitendra Shah, through his proactive leadership, brought these issues to the immediate attention of Shri Piyush Goyal. The minister assured swift action, promising overnight resolutions on the raised matters, reinforcing his commitment to easing trade challenges.
