CRIF High Mark: International Women’s Day Data Points


women borrowers spiked 36% since December 2017. At the onset of International Women’s Day, they have put together the attached data and insights around the women borrowing trends.

Key Observations:
-          Since Dec 2017, there is an incredible growth of 33% and 41% amongst women borrowers in the age group 36-50 and >50, respectively
-          Portfolio outstanding is lowest in Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana for personal, auto and housing loan, respectively
-          The average ticket size for women is more than that of men across home and auto loans
-          Women took most number of home loans across all categories as compared to men
-          The female borrowers also default less. Their delinquencies for home and auto loans are 15 and 10 basis points better than that of men
-          Top 4 southern states contribute 38.6 % towards total female personal loan
-          Top 3 southern states contribute 28.3 % towards total female auto loan
-          Top 3 southern state contribute 27% towards total female home loan

Observation:
Indian women are availing credit more for home Loan as compared to personal and auto loans.

-          41% in the age group of >50 years

Observations:
·         For Home loans as well as Auto loans, the delinquency of women borrowers at 0.63% and 0.96% is better off by 15 basis points and 10 basis points, respectively over the delinquency of male borrowers.
·         On the other hand, for Personal loans, the delinquency is almost at par for both men and women with a marginal difference of just one basis point, where women are deemed to be at a higher default risk at 0.70%

Observations:
·         The average ticket size of a home loan when women borrow (16.38 lakh) is 13.35 % higher than when a man borrows (14.45 lakh)
·         The average car loan size when women borrow (4.79 lakh) is 7.3% higher than when a man borrows (4.46lakh)
·         For personal loans, women seem to borrow less than men. The average ticket size for female applicants (1.68 lakh) is 6.5% less than when a man borrows (1.79 lakh)
