Mumbai 9th April: Ranjit Singh was unchallenged as he powered his way past Sagren Govender 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 in round 1 of the Otters Club Vedanta Squash Open, Organized by 5 Sports, in association with Otters Club at their glass-back squash courts, here, on Tuesday. Due to the overwhelming response, Khar Gymkhana is also hosting the first 2days of the tournament. The Otters Club Vedanta Squash Open is a PSA satellite event and a 3-Star tournament on the Indian Junior squash circuit.
Ranjit Started the game strong with Sagren making unforced errors helping him take a 3-0 lead but Sagren bounced back after the inital hitch to score a few smart points and level the scores at 3-3.Sagren started attacking after that scoring back to back winners to take a 6-4 lead but Ranjit did not let a few mistakes affect his game and bounced back to take the first game 11-7. The second game started out on a promising note with Sagren and Ranjit going neck to neck at 2-2 but Ranjit siwtched gears and just took off from there socring quick points and wearing down his opponent to race to a 11-4 win. The third game was a similar affair as a visibly tired Sagren was of no match to the skill and speed of Ranjit, losing it 5-11. In another match, Third seed Abhishek Agarwal overpowered Manjeet Gupta i 11-5, 11-2, 11-3 to advance to the next round. Meanwhile, Naveen Jangra seeded in the 5 to 8 bracket also finished his match in straight games, defeating the unseeded Aditya Jaiswal 11-5, 11-3, 11-5.
In the U-19 match played at Otters Club, unseeded Arnaav Sareen got the better of Kunal Singh who is seeded in the 17/32 bracket , 11-1, 11-9, 11-3. In another upset of the day, unseeded Neel Joshi took out Sathya Narayanan S who is also seeded in the 17/32 with an identical 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 margin.
