April 2 is considered to be WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY. UDAI- Working Together Works, a School for Differently-abled Children organized an Autism Awareness Walk. The goal of the walk was to promote awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder in the society in general.
The walk started at 11:00 AM from Janakpuri B1 block with great cheer and happy faces all around. Nearly 300 people walked for about 5 km this morning and the walk culminated at BB Block RWA, Janakpuri. Students from Shankara School Noida, Amarjyoti and Ashtavakra participated as volunteers along with other individuals. Family members of differently- abled children also graced the occasion with their presence.
All the volunteers and participants wore Blue to support Autism Awareness. An organization called EFICOR was the associate partner for the event. Members of Resident Welfare Association also participated in the walk. Ms. Puneet Sharma, a renowned Astrologer, Ms. Sujata Narayan Swami from Shankara School, Noida, Mr. Rishipal Rana, SDMC West zone, Mr. Samarpan from EFICOR encouraged the participants. Mr. Rishipal Rana expressed his happiness to be a part of the walk, and insisted that the society not only needs to include people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, but also needs to treat them with love and affection. Ms Tanu Rajput, Director, UDAI thanked the gathering for coming in support of people with Autism and expressed her being hopeful of greater acceptance for autism in the society through such events. After the walk students,teachers and volunteers gathered in RWA park for Tree Plantation by Guests of Honor and performances by children from various organizations. Special Educators from UDAI performed a street play to spread awareness about Children with Special Needs, especially autism.
