NEW DELHI, JULY 19, 2019 – The Law School Admission Council, USA (LSAC®), a U.S.-based, not-for-profit organization devoted to promoting quality, access, and equity in law and education worldwide, has announced the recipients of its new LSAT—India™ Law Scholarship, an award that aims to provide the opportunity for aspiring lawyers to study at some of the best law schools in India. The LSAT—India Scholarship awards up to a maximum of INR. 6 lakhs to the 2019 LSAT—India scholar; the student with the highest overall reported score on the LSAT—India taken at the June 2, 2019 test administration.
With three students scoring highest, LSAC named Hena Ayisha, Shivansh Bagadiya and Pulkit Goyal as its 2019 LSAT—Indiascholars.
Yusuf Abdul-Kareem, Vice President of Emerging Markets and Business Intelligence, LSAC said: “To help commemorate more than ten years of LSAC administering the test in India, we are excited to announce not one, but three LSAT—India scholars. Congratulations to Hena, Shivansh, and Pulkit. We applaud the LSAT—India scholars for their achievements and look forward to continuing our vision of promoting academic excellence and leadership skills in the law students of India.”
Hena Ayisha hails from Thalassery and finished her schooling at the Bright Riders School in Abu Dhabi. Hena’s aunt was the person who suggested to study law based on her aptitude for problem-solving. Hena wants to help improve accessibility to law and to continue to widen the scope of career options in the legal profession.
Commenting on how she prepared for the LSAT—India exam, Hena stated, “I used the materials given online on the LSAT—India website and from Khan Academy. That helped me to understand my preparation needs, which sections I needed to practice, and how much more effort I needed to put in.”
Shivansh Bagadiya’s hometown is Indore, Madhya Pradesh and he attended the Daly College in Indore. Coming from a family of lawyers, he decided to pursue a career in law quite early on.
When providing advice to future test takers, Shivansh recommended they “take this test seriously. While they will find it to be a fun experience, they should know it will also require hard work – which is the best thing about this exam.”
Pulkit Goyal is from Gurugram in Haryana and attended the Amity International School in Gurugram. Pulkit was originally set to go abroad to study science, but his experience of debating and being a part of the debating society at his school allowed him to realize his potential for law. He wants to make law more accessible to students as a professional career, especially those from underprivileged sections of society.
Pulkit on his experience of writing the LSAT—India exam said in his own words: “Unlike other entrance exams, LSAT—India does not test how well a candidate can remember facts. LSAT—India does not require any prior knowledge, just some practice and wit.”
The scholarship — divided equally among the three recipients — will cover tuition and halls of residence fees for the first year of the law programme, up to a maximum of INR. 6 lakhs in total. Any unutilized scholarship costs from the first year can be rolled over to the subsequent year; the scholars will have the opportunity to continue receiving the scholarship benefits to cover a second year of tuition and halls of residence fees — as long as they secure an overall score in the top five percent (cumulative of both semesters) of the batch in their first year of the programme. The scholars will also attend LSAT—India events throughout the course of the year.
LSAT—India is one of the leading entrance tests for undergraduate and postgraduate law programs in India. More than 50 law schools accept LSAT—India scores as one of their admission criteria. Law aspirants can prepare for the test using the material that is available free to download from the LSAT—India™ website.
