THE SCHINDLER GLOBAL AWARD 2019 A SUCCESSFUL STEP AHEAD TO LEAPFROG DEVELOPMENT URBAN TRANSFORMATION IN MUMBAI, INDIA


May 2019, Mumbai: One of the most prominent student urban design competitions, the prestigious ‘The Schindler Global Award 2019’ was held this month in the megacity of Mumbai under the leadership of the Schindler Group, in collaboration with the ETH Zurich, Chair of Architecture and Urban Design, Professor KeesChristiaanse. Prof.Christiaanse is SGA Co-Chair together with Prof. Peter Staub, of the University of Liechtenstein. The SGA 2019 was also supported by the expertise of the Mumbai-based Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI).
A huge success, ‘Schindler Global Award 2019’ was attended by the nominated team representatives, students from leading Design and Architect Schools and Colleges in Mumbai and leading names and members from the Indian and International Industry fraternity.
Adding an interesting facet to the awards evening was an engaging Live Sand Art Performance on ‘Urban Mobility’ followed by an interactive panel discussion centred on ‘What is Mumbai’s position as a financial center in the regional or South Asian Urban System’. Moderated by Mr. Uday Kulkarni, President, India and South Asia, Schindler, the esteemed panellists comprised of Mr.KeesChristiaanse, Architect, Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at ETH, Zürich, Switzerland; ETH Zürich, Founder, Partner, KCAP, Rotterdam, Netherlands and Zürich, Switzerland), Mr. Deepak Parekh, Chairperson, HDFC, Mr.Peter Staub, leading architect who leads the Chair of Architectural Design and Theory and serves as Head of Institute of Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein,Mr. Raj Bajaaj, Chairperson, Lerch And BatesandMr.SatishBhujbal, Vice President -Kalpataru (Retired).
The Schindler Global Award
The Global Schindler Award is a competition for students of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and planning, where they are asked to submit outstanding concepts for new urban forms related to mobility, in response to global urban change. A jury of internationally renowned professionals in urban design and architecture will assess the competition entries.
