The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari accompanied by State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ on the occasion of the 144th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Mumbai on Thursday (31st Oct).
The Governor gave the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ Pledge to the assembled gathering on the occasion.
Hundreds of youths, school and college students, cadets of NCC and citizens participated in the ‘Run for Unity’. “I dedicate myself to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation”, and “resolve to make my own contribution to ensure internal security of my country,” reads the pledge.
Minister for Revenue and Public Works Chandrakant Dada Patil, Members of State Legislative Assembly Rahul Narvekar and Rahul Kul, Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Sanjay Barve, people’s representatives and senior government officials were present.
The Run for Unity started from NCPA, Nariman Point and culminated at Grant Medical College Gymkhana ground.
The birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, Independent India’s first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, is celebreated as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’.
