Thousands join ALLEN Career Institute’s beach clean-up drive on the eve of 150th Gandhi Jayanti

Over 1500 students participated in the beach clean-up drive, led by Mr. Brajesh Maheshwari, Director of Allen Career Institute.
Oct 2, 2019, Mumbai: Mahatma Gandhi once said "Sanitation is more important than independence". He made cleanliness and sanitation an integral part of the Gandhian way of living. To celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary ALLEN Career Institute in association with Afroz Shah, UN Environment’s champion of the Earth organized a cleanup drive with the theme — #SwachBharatAbhiyan with an aim to make India clean and healthy.
ALLEN students turned up in large numbers at the beach early morning on Wednesday and collected huge pile of garbage from Versova beach for nearly two hours. Further, the students found that the area was littered with various plastic materials and wastes.  During the drive plastic waste was collected and handed over to the municipal authorities for proper disposal.
ALLEN team with more than 1500 students studying at ALLEN participated in the drive, led by Mr. Brajesh Maheshwari, Director of Allen Career Institute.
Speaking on the clean-up drive, Mr. Brajesh Maheshwari, Director of Allen Career Institute says “People across India would gather together to observe Gandhi Jayanti on his 150th birth anniversary on 2nd October, I am proud that ALLEN Mumbai team participated in huge numbers for the clean-up. It’s being the third year that  large number of students become a part of the ALLEN’s Swach Bharat Mission by cleaning various public places and beautifies them with Rangoli, paintings and messages on cleanliness on play carts at various locations like beaches, railway stations, bus stands, parks etc. This is just a small step to inculcate great values among our students to make them a responsible citizen and also to make our country a better place to live. We can really make a difference by empowering people to take an active role in cleaning our country. We need to join hands keeping the future of our country in mind”.
“On the ‘International Coastal Cleanup Day’ ALLEN Mumbai team and the student fraternity had carried out the Versova beach clean-up drive. And a similar clean-up drive was carried out on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. We believe that the clean-up drive is a continuous activity and ALLEN preaches to carry out on consistent basis. We believe in spreading awareness towards minimizing the use of plastic among the students,” added Mr. Maheshwari.
“It was an amazing experience to see all of us come together to restore the beach to a better condition. It was an incredible effort by Brajesh Sir and ALLEN team to help us see how many people care about the environment. We hope to work with the team in future so that one day the beach cleaning won’t be needed” said student of Allen Career Institute.
All the team members and students of Allen were provided protective gloves to maintain hygiene while picking up the garbage. The participants removed the trash and plastic wastes littered around the beaches.
